Approved: Beck – Blue Moon

Next month, Beck returns with his first album for six years, ‘Morning Phase’, the first under his new record deal with Virgin EMI. Delving into the same set of influences as his 2002 album ‘Sea Change’, it was recorded with the same band as that record, and with Beck’s father David Campbell returning to help out with string arrangements.
However, with expectations so tuned to hear ‘Sea Change Part 2’, the differences from that twelve year old LP are striking. The songwriting is more refined here, and, while ‘more positive’ possibly isn’t the right term, it is less subdued.
