Approved: Concrete Antenna

‘Concrete Antenna’ is a new album by Tommy Perman, Simon Kirby and Rob St John based on a sound installation commissioned by the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop to mark the opening of a new tower built on the site. The trio’s recordings are built using archive samples and field recordings from the landscape around the tower, layered with sparse piano and other sounds.
Even removed from the location it was originally created for, the music created for the project still sounds like it comes from a very specific place – the feeling of wind and rain lapping at the tower as it stands firm, drawing in the sound of its surroundings, still coming across strongly.
The album will be released on 14 Sep, with a vinyl set featuring accompanying art prints, essays and tide table. Watch the video for opening track ‘Church Bells’ and a short documentary on the project here:
