Approved: Dark Sky
By Paul Vig | Published on Thursday 14 August 2014
Formed five years ago production trio Dark Sky have remixed the likes of The xx, Maya Jane Coles, Bombay Bicycle Club and Kelis and have released original material through 50Weapons, Black Acre, Tectonic, Pictures Music and Ninja Tune.
Their debut album, ‘Imagin’, may surprise a little, veering away from twelve-inch bangers it leans more on the guest vocals peppered throughout its ten tracks.
Amongst them, Grey Reverend provides a haunting delivery on ‘Silent Fall’, while approved solo artist Cornelia adds vocals on three tracks, ‘Nothing Changes’, ‘Vivid’ and the rather lush album highlight ‘Purple Clouds’. At times her performances are reminiscent of Louise Rhodes’ vocal output with Lamb – starting slowly, until a sterling beatsy backdrop appears.
A good mixed bag, thoughtfully created and nicely pulled off. These Londoners are ones to watch, and prove they have definitively more than one string to their bow.
