Born on a farm in the small town of Fruitland, Washington, brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson lived out a boyish ‘rockstar’ fantasy via their dad-financed eight track LP ‘Dreamin Wild’, recorded in a log pile shack-come-studio with shagpile walls, and put out, pretty much unnoticed, in 1979.
An accomplished haul of spit roast soul/funk wig-outs and puppy love pop songs, the album languished unsung until – on the good word of vinyl nut Jack Fleischer, who dug it up in a junk shop – the blog gods and, later, lo-fi divinity Ariel Pink toasted it as a ‘lost’ classic.
Some of Donnie and Joe’s story is told in this shortish doc from the Light In The Attic label, which re-released the LP in 2012, and will on 16 Jun follow it with a compilation of tracks and scraps dating back to the ‘Dreamin Wild’ days, and forward a bit to 1981. ‘Ride The Tide’ is on it:
