Approved: Haleek Maul
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 9 November 2015
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Barbados, rapper and producer Haleek Maul began making music while still at school. He was still in his teens when he started getting attention with the release of his first EP and mixtape in 2012.
Rather than immediately capitalising on this, Maul decided to put his music on hold while he finished school. Three years later (and still not quite out of his teens), he’s back this week with a new mixtape, ‘Prince Midas’, the first in a trilogy of releases.
His hard-edged, experimental hip hop sound has been finessed by a collection of collaborators, including Shy Guy, Dubbel Dutch, Last Japan and Boody. Guest vocals also turn up, from Saul Williams on the single ‘Money God’, and Danish duo Kill J.
