Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea is so divisive, she practically slices ‘divisive’ in half, stomps a Louboutin on it and leaves it TO die. Here are a few reasons why:

a) She’s white, white-blonde, and raps with an accent that isn’t hers (she’s from Australia, not Atlanta).

b) Her stage name is also her dog’s name, and the dog had it first.

c) She built a hit on an um, ‘colloquial’ P-bomb, dated A$AP Rocky, released a bad single, and then a less bad single (which I think is great), and then, back at plain bad again, a single involving TI.

But, oh I don’t know, whilst most of the world still thinks she is some kind of horrible joke, I think Iggy’s got something, if not much notion of how to put on clothes. But who likes putting on clothes anyway? And what she does have is genuine (possibly) grit, and enough guile to have out-ground the tough hip hop millstone, and made some dough. Plus she has a catchy new hit featuring pop’s go-to ‘feat’ singer, 1990s grungekind Charli XCX, which always helps.

Its title is ‘Fancy’, and its beat is c/o London trio The Invisible Men, which explains why it has a certain eau de Sugababes to it. In it, Iggy teases the basic idea of drinking and dancing at night into a few clever-ish verses, no easy feat, whilst Charli XCX sings things to do with mini bars, Tokyo, and mini bars in Tokyo.
