Approved: Killer Mike – The Boonies
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 15 April 2014
I have no idea what ‘The Boondocks’ is, except that it’s an Adult Swim cartoon that’s about to come back for its fourth series. And I only know that because Google is a thing we have now. But apparently it’s a good thing that people like, so maybe I should make some sort of effort to see it. Certainly, if it’s the sort of thing that rapper Killer Mike sees fit to record a track for, then it’s probably worth more of my attention.
And, hey, guess what, Killer Mike has recorded a track to coincide with the new series, which will feature on a mixtape also featuring material by the likes of Lil Herb, Skeme and others. That’s why I said that before.
Called ‘The Boonies’, the track is Mike’s first new material since last year’s Run The Jewels project with producer El-P (which also had an Adult Swim tie-up). Replacing El-P in the producer’s chair is Alchemist, who paints a dark backing for Mike’s vocal, all ominous piano and tambourine that sounds like a rattlesnake.
The full mixtape is out tomorrow, and you can listen to ‘The Boonies’ here:
