Approved: Lafawndah – Tan
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 1 December 2015
Lafawndah first appeared in this column back in May 2014 with her acclaimed debut EP – a collection of songs described back then as “strange, brave and discombobulating”.
Newly signed to Warp, Lafawndah is now back with new track ‘Tan’, taken from a new EP of the same name, out on 5 Feb. The EP sees her working with fellow producers Nick Weiss and Tamer Fahri, with additional guidance from ADR and L-Vis 1990. The result is something more polished than her earlier work, but it still maintains the individual vision and style of that first release.
‘Tan’ is underpinned by a drum track that both pushes it forward and pulls it back at the same time, roughing up the rest of the music. The vocals then roll over the top, bringing a calm and clarity to the track.
