Approved: Majical Cloudz

Vocalist Devon Welsh and producer Matthew Otto, aka Majical Cloudz, have just posted the video for ‘Silver Car Crash’, the latest track taken from their second album ‘Are You Alone?’, due out through Matador on 16 Oct.
Of the video, Walsh says: “We shot this video in Montreal with Neil Corcoran. We used his camera as well as my friend Kyle’s camera. It’s very homemade, shot quickly. I mainly believe in videos as an expression of the artist(s) themselves, and this is the video I wanted to make. It’s not flashy or spectacular, but I think it does the mood of the band justice, which is most important to me. In any case, I made it myself so that it feels good to put it out”.
It certainly captures the mood of the song, both downbeat and coyly playful. Otto’s music is a sparse wash of synths, underpinning Welsh’s lyrics, which constantly play with expectations and feature a whole host of quotable turns of phrase.
