Maria Usbeck

Former Selebrities frontwoman Maria Usbeck releases her debut solo album, ‘Amparo’, this Friday. Three years in the making, the record sees Usbeck return to her first language of Spanish, with songs written and demoed on travels back where she was born in Ecuador, as well as to Buenos Aires, Santiago, Barcelona, Lisbon, Easter Island, Costa Rica, Florida and LA, and to where she now calls home, Brooklyn.

She then spent a winter in the studio with the record’s co-producer – Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek – fleshing out her electronic compositions with layers of acoustic instruments. Three songs have been released from the album already: ‘Moai Y Yo’, ‘Uno De Tus Ojos’ and now ‘Jungla Inquieta’. Each is a lush, warm recording, delicately constructed and benefitting greatly from the amount of time that was spent on it.
