Approved: New Build

It’s remarkable how the various Hot Chip side projects and collaborations often prove way more interesting than Hot Chip themselves. Like The 2 Bears, New Build are a case in point. Their 2012 debut album ‘Yesterday Was Lived And Lost’ was a fine collection of sharp new wave and sleek electro and ‘The Sunlight’ – the first taster from follow-up album ‘Pour It On’ – suggests equally fine things to come from the London trio.
There’s a modest touch of Kraftwerk’s ‘Europe Endless’ about ‘The Sunlight’, as it shimmers with a nebula of pulsing synths, whilst the multi-tracked vocals of Al Doyle add equally lush textures to suitably hypnotic effect. Too blissed-out for dancing to, yet too cerebral for background music to chill out to as well, ‘The Sunlight’ reveals more of its palatial beauty with every listen.
New Build having signed to Sunday Best, ‘Pour It On’ is out on 20 Oct. You can listen to ‘The Sunlight’ here:
