Princess Chelsea

Best known for her 2011 viral hit ‘The Cigarette Duet’, Princess Chelsea, aka Chelsea Nikkel, is set to release her second album, ‘The Great Cybernetic Depression’, through Flying Nun/Lil Chief on 8 Jun.

Building her lo-fi pop sound into something more grand on the new album, a narrative based on the future cataclysmic event of the title is woven through the record, entwined with her real life anxieties of today and wry observations on the mundanities of life. Musically and lyrically Nikkel manages to pull off being both over the top and understated throughout the record, often at the same time.

You can catch her live in the UK next month following the album’s release, starting at Birthdays in London on 10 Jun, followed by Start The Bus in Bristol on 11 Jun and The Hope And Rain in Brighton on 12 Jun.

Now, here’s the video for ‘No Church On Sunday’ from ‘The Great Cybernetic Depression’:
