Approved: Tei Shi – Bassically

Having been released in October last year, ‘Bassically’ by Tei Shi, aka Valerie Teicher, made its way into my favourite songs of 2014 playlist, but somehow missed out on being approved. Well, yesterday the video for the track was released, which I think is some sort of sign that I should rectify that situation.

Tei Shi released her approved debut EP, ‘Saudade’, in late 2013, a record which had some great tracks on it but which, to be honest, I considered to be good but a bit patchy. This was partly because she seemed unsure about where she was going with her sound. And that’s why it was such an extra joy to hear her come back with a song as confident and forthrightly poppy as ‘Bassically’.

The track will feature on a new EP called ‘Verde’, which will be released through Double Denim on 13 Apr. I’ve not heard that whole package (apart from this track and second single ‘See Me’), but I don’t think this release will be patchy at all. Just watch this video:
