‘XXX’ rapper Danny Brown is writing a non-XXX book, for kids, in the style of whimsical/irritating rhyming scribe Dr Seuss. Brown, who has a thirteen year old daughter, says he is writing it to inspire girls (and boys) to have confidence in themselves.

Explaining it all an interview with Australian radio station Triple J, he said: “It’s been taking me forever to finish. It’s really about self-esteem in black girls, I guess. You know how black women do so much – process their hair, change their eye colour – it’s really about a little girl who does all these things to herself and changes herself and she realises she’s just better off the way she is”.

He added: “It’s something for my daughter… I’ve got to finish it though, I want it to be real Dr Seuss-y. ‘The Grinch’, ‘Green Eggs And Ham’, and ‘One Fish, Two Fish’ – what was going on in that guy’s brain to be able to write those things?”

Then he went: “I think I AM Dr Seuss! I’m The Grinch, I’m all his characters come to life in rap music”.

Yeah. And for another thing, Danny Brown is also, amidst all that inspirational fiction-writing and plotting to steal Christmas, finding time to work on a follow-on to his 2013 LP ‘Old’. He claims he is “recording like a maniac”, saying: “I’m just going real hard with this album… I want to put out the best possible album I can put out with this one. [I] always gotta try and top myself and who else is better competition than yourself?. I listen to ‘Old’ and it’s like, ‘I don’t know how I’m gonna beat this one’. I’m really, really trying my hardest and just make the best possible music I can make for the people”.
