DHP Family acquires two MAMA venues

Two more former MAMA & Company venues have been sold off, following the group’s Live Nation acquisition last year. The Borderline in Soho was handed over to DHP Family on Friday, with a deal for The Garage in Highbury expected to be completed with the same company shortly.
DHP Family already operate Oslo in Hackney, Thekla in Bristol and Nottingham’s Rock City, Rescue Rooms, Bodega and Stealth. The company says it expects its new venues to be able to take advantage of the upcoming shift to a 24 hour tube service in London, thanks to their close proximity to underground stations. Both venues will undergo refurbishment now that they are under new ownership, with The Borderline set to close between December 2016 and March 2017. The Garage will not have to close as it is refitted.
“We hope this is a start of new era for these venues”, says DHP Family’s George Akins. “Having delivered a successful model with Oslo, we feel London would welcome more venues offering this type of high quality experience”.
The Nordic-themed Oslo offers food and drink throughout the day, as well as opening its venue space at night. It’s not clear if this is the model Akins is referring to, or if either of the new venues is really suited to daytime opening. Full plans are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Another of MAMA’s former venues, The Jazz Café, was sold to the Columbo Group last year, and reopened following refurbishment last week.
