Lil Wayne moves Cash Money lawsuit to New Orleans

Lil Wayne has moved his ongoing lawsuit against Cash Money Records from New York to New Orleans, where he originally signed his deal with the label in 1998.
As previously reported, Wayne claims that Cash Money has failed to pay him a $10 million advance that was due on his yet to be released ‘Tha Carter V’ album, and that as a result he should be cut loose from his contract with the record company.
Following media reports earlier this week that the case had been dropped entirely, the rapper’s lawyer Ron Sweeney told Rolling Stone that the re-filing had been a pre-emptive move.
He explained: “We gave [Cash Money] until 6 Apr to file an answer. They said they were going to challenge the venue, so at that point, it was a waste of time and money, so we all agreed that we would dismiss the action [in New York] and Wayne and [his record label] Young Money would re-file in New Orleans”.
Reiterating that the case otherwise stood as was, a statement from Sweeney’s team added: “The claims previously asserted by Lil Wayne and Young Money LLC against Cash Money for substantial monies owed and breach of fiduciary duty have not been settled and will be prosecuted in Louisiana as expeditiously as possible”.
And so, the case continues.
