Live Nation and Yahoo! announce gig streaming venture
By Chris Cooke | Published on Tuesday 29 April 2014
Live Nation has announced an alliance with Yahoo! that will see the latter stream the former’s concerts live, with a gig a day for a year supported by some of those sponsorship dollars. It’s all part of Yahoo’s latest attempt to provide more original content, especially of the video variety.
There have been numerous attempts over the years to launch streaming gig services, both ad-funded and subscription-based, most with very mixed results.
Though those web-cam-in-club things are meant to be doing pretty well for some not-entirely-clear-to-me reason. So perhaps now is the time for a gig streaming set-up to prosper and thrive. And obviously Yahoo! is the just the company to lead such a thing.
