NOFX’s Fat Mike scripts rock musical
By Aly Barchi | Published on Thursday 4 December 2014
Fat Mike off of NOFX has co-written an ‘American Idiot’-style punk rock musical, titled ‘Home Sweet Home’, with his worryingly-named dominatrix girlfriend Soma Snakeoil, and ‘Avenue Q’ co-creator Jeff Marx.
The still-in-development live show, which follows a bunch of young runaways navigating the big wide world (sort of like a moshpit twist on ‘Oliver!’, I’m thinking) will hit theatres in the States next spring.
Meanwhile the likes of Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, Tony-winning rock Lady Lena Hall, No Use For A Name’s late frontman Tony Sly and various factions of The Descendents, Mad Caddies, Lagwagon, the Real McKenzies and, obvs, NOFX (…and Frank Turner) all voice characters on the production’s official soundtrack album, which is coming out on 10 Feb.
Speaking via Rolling Stone on his new job as a theatre lovvie, Fat Mike says: “Ever since I saw ‘Rocky Horror [Picture Show]’ when I was eight, I’ve been intrigued by musicals. Well, not all musicals, just the ones that break the mould. Luckily, I found two people, Jeff Marx and Soma Snakeoil, that love breaking things as much as I do. This is fucking fun!”
