Retailers face stock issues due to Arvato delays
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 9 December 2013
Music retailers are experiencing delays in receiving stock in the all important pre-Christmas rush, according to Music Week. The problem, it seems, is delays in the delivery system operated by Arvato, a subsidiary of BMG-owner Bertelsmann which provides logistical services in the UK to all the majors and indie-label distributor [PIAS].
Quite why there are delays in the Arvato logistical network isn’t clear, though one retailer told Music Week: “Arvato has severely underestimated the amount of orders and the change from bulk ordering on a few lines to singles over more lines. [The company] appears to have completely underestimated how busy Christmas would be – especially with vinyl sales, which face the longest delays”.
Arvato has confirmed there are some backlog issues, saying: “We’d like to apologise to anyone who has been affected by a delay in receiving their stock and can assure them that we’re doing everything we can to rectify the situation as soon as possible. If anyone has a question relating to a delayed delivery, they can contact our customer services team on 0330 100 0640 for more information”.
