Rock N Roll Summer School For Girls to launch in Glasgow
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 6 February 2015
Glasgow School Of Art Students’ Association has announced that it will launch a scheme to encourage girls aged been eight and sixteen to take up musical instruments.
Called the Rock N Roll Summer School For Girls Glasgow, the programme is based on a similar scheme in Portland, Oregon. The aim, its website says, is to “promoting feminism, noise-making with confidence and friendship”.
It adds: “Creative voices of girls and women need to be amplified to create social change. Girls need positive role models and support for their creative endeavours. We can build a community where girls support each other rather than tear each other down. We can empower girls to recognise, understand, and respond to discrimination. ‘Girls Rock’ is more than just a slogan”.
The programme will run from 13-18 Jul. More information here.
