Rough Trade to open New York branch
By CMU Editorial | Published on Thursday 12 April 2012
Rough Trade has announced that it is breaking out of London, and even the UK, to open a new permanent store in New York. Situated in Williamsburg and due to open this autumn, the shop will be larger than the sizeable Rough Trade East branch. Similar also to its East London counterpart, it will have an area set aside for live performances.
Rough Trade co-owner Stephen Godfroy said in a statement: “At long last, we can finally confirm the next bold step in our evolution. We’re extremely excited at the prospect of handing over the ‘blank canvas’, that is a Rough Trade store, to the music lovers of New York, allowing them make it their own culture agora, just as the people of London have so successfully achieved, with downturn-defying results”.
