Slipknot’s masks aren’t a gimmick, says Corey Taylor. Even though they are.

Slipknot’s famous masks are a gimmick. Clearly so. Not necessarily a bad gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless. It’s like all those other publications that cover the music business with a straight face. So gimmicky. Anyway, back to Slipknot’s masks. Oh my God, they’re such a gimmick. Could not be more so. And if thinking that makes me a shithead, then so be it.
“To everyone who thinks it’s just a gimmick”, bellowed frontman Corey Taylor at Italian radio station Linea Rock. “Live in it and you tell me it’s a gimmick, you shitheads”.
No thanks, I’ll get my own gimmick, if it’s alright with you.
“I don’t think you’ll ever see a Slipknot ‘unmasked’ tour”, he continued. “Everybody asks me that. It’s such a part of what we do and it helps us really embrace the music. I couldn’t see that happening”.
He’s right, that would be a bit too gimmicky. And not good gimmicky, bad gimmicky.
Here’s the full interview, in which Taylor wears his gimmicky mask throughout:
