Tyler, The Creator cancels Australian tour
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 10 August 2015
Tyler, The Creator’s upcoming Australian tour, as pretty much expected, has been cancelled, following protests against his appearance in the country.
As previously reported, the rapper tweeted that he had been “banned from Australia” last month, though promoter Frontier Touring quickly issued a statement that said, while this was not actually the case, Australia’s department for immigration had “raised issues” with his visa application.
Tyler has faced protests both as a member of Odd Future and as a solo act when trying to perform in Australia in the past over references to violence against women in his lyrics.
An exact reason for the cancellation was not given in a statement published by Frontier Touring this morning, but the rapper was quoted as saying: “We would much rather come to Australia when it isn’t surrounded in controversy. I love my fans there and hopefully I’ll be back soon. Don’t do drugs”.
