Wu-Tang Clan have finally got shot of that single-copy album they had made up. Must be a relief. The CD has been purchased by a “private American collector” for an amount “in the millions”, auction house Paddle8 told Forbes.

As previously reported, the 31 track, 128 minute record, titled ‘The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’, was finished last year, with just one CD copy pressed and placed in a pricey looking box. The group then held a single public listening for the album in March before putting it up for auction.

The sale was agreed in May, but it has apparently taken until now to finalise contracts and other legal business.

“The Wu-Tang Clan have always been driven by innovation, and this marks another moment in musical history”, said Wu-Tang’s RZA. “From the beginning, we hoped that this concept would inspire debate and new ways of seeing creativity. Both of those goals have been achieved, and the ideas continue to evolve”.

A portion of the money raised from the sale will go to charity. The group will then spend the rest of it on hats and Freddo chocolate bars. Maybe. I don’t know.
