Former Arab Strap frontman Aidan Moffat found himself in hospital last week, after complaining of chest pains and dizziness. It turned out not to be a heart attack, so that’s alright. According to Moffat, his diagnosis is not clear, though it could be a virus, exhaustion, hypochondria or “too much crisps”.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, ‘This doesn’t really seem like news’. And maybe you’re right. Or maybe you should show a bit more concern for other people. Anyway, the main reason I mention it is because Moffat wrote an entertaining blog post on his brush with death.

“The ambulance crew ask all the necessary lifestyle questions, including the dreaded ‘What do you do for a living?'” he wrote. “But instead of the usual mutual disappointment that fills the air when I talk of singing in Arab Strap or writing songs with Bill Wells (‘Doesn’t ring a bell. I don’t really keep up with music these days. Do you sell a lot of records?’), the nurse says: ‘Are you too young to remember Altered Images? My brother was in Altered Images’. I decide that now is not the time to discuss my erotic, recurring dreams of Clare Grogan. I don’t want my possibly fragile heart to explode”.
