AIM boss leads Queen’s birthday honours

Alison Wenham, founder and boss of the Association Of Independent Music, was among the music types to be given some letters from the Queen this weekend as part of the Birthday Honours list. The letters O, B and E to be precise. Wenham was given the honour for her services to the creative industries. She’ll formally receive her OBE medal later in the year.
Among the various indie music types to congratulate Wenham on her honour, was Beggars Group chief Martin Mills, who told CMU this weekend: “No one deserves this honour more than Alison. The Queen of the indies has, over the past ten years, brought the indie community, here and worldwide, from a standing start to a position of formidable strength and tremendous influence. Ongoing Bloodymindedness Expected!”
Other musical recipients of an OBE this time round include the legend that is John Cale and one time Hollie and one third of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Graham Nash. Meanwhile there was a CBE for the rather influential record producer chap Robin Miller, who has worked with the likes of REM, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, Sade, Nirvana, Johnny Cash and Jay-Z, and has been very involved in rallying the producer community over the years.
Also musical and honoured are jazz man Michael Garrick, Phil Kelsall, resident organist at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, and Leonard Andrews, a 90 year-old brass band teacher, who all got MBEs.
