Alanis Morissette making Jagged Little Pill: The Musical
By Chris Cooke | Published on Monday 11 November 2013
Alanis Morisette is working with the people behind Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ musical, to make a super-‘Ironic’ stage adaptation of her 1995 LP, ‘Jagged Little Pill’. Set to preview on Broadway in 2014, the show will feature all the songs on ‘Jagged’, plus other tracks, released and not released, from Morisette’s oeuvre, and a number written specifically for the score.
‘American Idiot’ producer Tiwary, who pitched the musical in the first place, says: “It’s not a concept album the way ‘American Idiot’ was. But there is a woman in a relationship where the other person has more power. She ends up getting dumped, and is vilified, but comes to a place of empowerment”.
Alanis, who is considering appearing in the show herself, adds: “I don’t know whether it would be me starting in the role or coming in at some point, but I’m totally open to the possibility of that. I think once it’s written, it will become more obvious whether I was born to originate the role”.
