American Idol to take votes via Facebook
By CMU Editorial | Published on Friday 25 February 2011
‘American Idol’ will let viewers vote via Facebook for the first time this series, presumably hitting an important revenue stream for the show’s producers, the money charged when votes are cast by phone. Anyone with a Facebook account will be able to make their vote via the Idol franchise’s page on the social networking site.
This development is probably more interesting because ‘Idol’ is aired by News Corp’s Fox network, yet they have decided to launch online voting with Facebook rather than News Corp’s own web platform – the “we’re all about music don’t you know” MySpace. Presumably Fox has given up on its parent company’s expensive web adventure like the rest of us.
