Aphex Twin unveils first track from new album
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 5 September 2014
The first track from Aphex Twin’s new ‘Syro’ album is now on the internet. Like, right on it.
Explains the press release:”Heard for the first time on Radio 1’s Zane Lowe show last night, we can now listen to the album track ‘minipops 67 [120.2][source field mix]’ This is the first Aphex Twin song for 13 years between the publication of the first a formal music”.
Despite what you might be thinking, that is actually the name of the track. Anyway, you can listen to it here:
Also this week, Rolling Stone published an interview with the man himself, Richard D James. He revealed that the album was actually pressed into Warp’s sweaty hands six months ago and he is now feeling “horny” and “very smug” about it.
On why it’s taken quite so long to get around to releasing a new album, he added: “Well, I have wanted to do it; it’s just getting around to doing it. It’s a real ball-ache. It’s not what I’m interested in. I just like making the stuff. To be honest, I thought, ‘Who’s even interested anymore?’ When Warp was really interested, I was like, ‘Really? Is this a joke or something?’ I kind of expected them to say, ‘No, nobody actually buys any records anymore, mate. Sorry'”.
