Apple boss takes leave of absence for hormone treatment
By CMU Editorial | Published on Thursday 15 January 2009
Apple boss Steve Jobs has announced he is taking a medical leave of absence because “during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought”.
It’s thought Jobs will step down from the day-to-day running of Apple until at least July, with COO Tim Cook taking over. It remains to be seen what impact the announcement is going to have on Apple’s share price today.
As previously reported, investors who see Jobs as key to Apple’s success have become increasingly nervous as rumours of the CEO’s health have rumbled on for months.
Jobs, a survivor of pancreatic cancer, admitted last week that he was receiving treatment for a hormonal imbalance that had caused weight loss.
