Approved: Barbagallo
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 1 February 2017
Julien Barbagallo – or just plain Barbagallo to you and I – is preparing for the formal UK release of his second solo album, ‘Grand Chien’, later this year. And to get everyone in the mood, he’s released a remix of album track ‘Longue La Nuit’, remixed by his Tame Impala bandmate Kevin Parker.
Recorded largely in Australia, where he has been based for several years with Tame Impala, as well as in hotel rooms around the world, the album sees Barbagallo reconnect with his home country by singing entirely in French. And the way he shapes his words around the music feels like it couldn’t have been pulled off in English – even on Parker’s remix, although they did try, it turns out.
“I was stoked when Kevin worked his magic on a remix”, says Barbagallo of Parker’s work. “I knew he would take the song to a level that gets the body grooving, because I can say one of Kev’s loves in life is to make people dance. For a while there as he was working on it, we had some fun with some new lyrics, pure Australian class, however ‘sexy ladies tonight, Byron Bay to Bondi’ didn’t make the final cut. Give it a go though, it does sound good. Our dance duo choreography is to follow”.
