Approved: Bat For Lashes
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 9 June 2011
Bat For Lashes performed two nights at the Sydney Opera House last weekend, which is pretty cool. At one of the shows, which were part of the Vivid Festival, she performed a new song, which TwentyFourBit.com promptly recorded and whammed up on SoundCloud (stream below). Built on a single four bar loop, layers of synths and choral backing are added and taken away to meet the peaks and troughs of Natasha Khan’s vocals.
Khan’s third album as Bat For Lashes is due for release later this year. After the heart squeezing majesty of 2009’s ‘Two Suns’, anticipation is justifiably high. And this new song suggests it will meet expectations. But we need something to quell all that excitement for now, which is where Stereogum’s handy compilation of Khan’s ten best covers comes in handy. It sees her taking on everyone form The Cure to Kings Of Leon.
