Bonobo, aka producer Simon Green, has certainly evolved over the course of his four albums, and on his fifth, ‘The North Borders’, which was released last week, he continues to maintain his track record as a strong force in modern electronic music.
Created in New York with collaborations from Erykah Badu and Grey Reverend, this excellently crafted LP covers many styles, though could be defined overall as a collection of rather luscious electronica. And after launching Andreya Triana’s career on his last album, ‘Black Sands’, Green has found the lush vocals of another new collaborator, Szjerdene, who is sprinkled in across the album.
The stand out track is definitely ‘Emkay’, where Green leans on his urban roots, referencing the finer points of UK garage. Meanwhile, ‘Cirrus’ places beautiful melodic chimes over a stylish backdrop of beats. Do check out the amazing video for the latter, directed by Cyriak, here:
