Dark Sky

Dark Sky are back with a new album on MonkeyTown called ‘Othona’. The nine track LP is named after a Roman fort in Essex, which, following World War Two, housed a small diverse harmonious community, which in turn inspired the duo.

It is a definite shift away from the more sensitive debut ‘Imagin’, when the band were a trio with Carlo Anderson, who left last year. Remaining members Matt Benyayer and Tom Edwards take us to pastures more techy and into more of a club arena. Lacking the vocals of the debut, it does feel a little machine-like in parts, but not in an unpleasant fashion, and it definitely covers a variety of styles.

The title track clinks and bleeps along in a downtempo way, while the breakbeat backboned ‘Badd’ comes up trumps and ‘JJJ’ is something of an epic techno number aimed more for the dancefloor. But here, right now, you can check out ‘The Walker’ with its swirling synths below.

Meanwhile the duo are said to be working on a brand new live show to take on the road in the near future, which will definitely be worth looking out for.
