CMU Approved
Approved: Erik Luebs
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 19 April 2017
Erik Luebs has appeared in this column in his better known Magical Mistakes guise several times, but he’s just released his second EP under his own name, which also deserves attention. The three track release, ‘Wasteland’, sees him pursue longer explorations into techno production than on Magical Mistakes releases.
Opener ‘Red C’ is the EP at its hardest, coming on like a shipping container lost at sea, beats and synths tossed around on pulsing waves for nine exhilarating minutes. ‘Crashed’, meanwhile, moves into more ambient realms, a journey less rough but no less enjoyable.
A bonus not on the EP itself, but well worth seeking out, is a remix of ‘Red C’ from other CMU faves, Vessels.
