Foxygen

So yes, you may have creeping doubts over whether the er… uniquely-named Foxygen are really serious about this music lark, just by virtue of that rather ridiculous stage alias alone. Once accustomed to that (why, I’ve almost come to like it), the automatic prestige in 22 year olds Sam France and Jonathan Rado’s being signed to Lia Ices, Sharon Van Etten and Women’s label stable Jagjaguwar, at least, should allay any mistrust and render Foxygen at least worth a listen. Yes? Good.

Billed in their official Jagjaguwar blurb as “manic”, “freewheeling” and “total savants” with good reason; there’s a certain madcap eclecticism to the band’s debut EP ‘Take The Kids Of Broadway’ (released on 23 Jul) that sounds like a late night scan through various classic and contemporary radio stations. Take the much touted ‘Make It Known’, for instance, which alights upon a thousand points of rock reference and, miraculously, masters most.

Preview this and the rest of ‘Take The Kids Of Broadway’ – which is out on 23 Jul – via this here Bandcamp player:
