Taiwanese psych duo Mong Tong 夢東 are set to release their debut album, ‘Mystery秘神’, through Guruguru Brain later this month. An exhilarating whirlwind of an album, they’ve just released the latest taste of it in the form of new single ‘Ancient Mars’.
Brothers Hom Yu and Jiun Chi were apparently inspired to start the project in 2017 by a mutual desire to channel their love of “Taiwanese occult-inspired art and vintage superstitious imagery” into music. From that starting point, they’ve since drawn in Chinese synth-pop, video game soundtracks and 1980s media reports on UFOs as further influences. All of which leaves their music sounding like some long-forgotten gem you uncovered in a dusty box in the attic.
Having released excellent first single ‘Chakra’ last month, ‘Ancient Mars’ is an equally invigorating track. The album is out on 19 Jun. Watch the video for ‘Ancient Mars’ here:
