Approved: Parquet Courts – Light Up Gold Road Trip
By Aly Barchi | Published on Tuesday 23 April 2013
If, as in my case, you can’t stop going back to previously approved Brooklyn-via-Texas band Parquet Courts’ debut LP ‘Light Up Gold’, you probably won’t mind giving over a little viewing time to Vice man Andy Capper’s new film of the same name.
Charting the band’s first real post-‘Light Up Gold’ road trip, following its initial release back in January, the video is a great insight into the album, and finds the quartet, perhaps for the first time, able to break away from the cash/career-based cares that are the LP’s base wiring.
Their dry bewilderment at being liked and, as is said in the film, relative naivety to what a “big deal” it all is, are nice to watch; as are the film’s Mexican campfire vigils, dazed Sky Ferreira PAs and cereal-bargaining scenes.
Parquet Courts follow a show at this year’s Great Escape with a date at London’s 100 Club on 19 May, tickets for which are available here.
