Despite Babymetal’s success, it still remains mildly astonishing the number of acts that also follow the same extreme/pop musical mash up path. Just the existence of Babymetal remains joyously perplexing, but there are a load more acts doing a similar thing waiting in the wings.

Just now I was listening to the new single from hardcore punk girl group Guso Drop, wondering what set of circumstances led it to contain the words “fuckathon me”. But my attention was quickly drawn away by the new single from PassCode, whose frenetic electro-metal became a new favourite when they released their debut single, ‘Miss Unlimited’, last year.

Second single ‘Bite The Bullet’ follows the same mould – bone crushing riffs, roaring vocals tearing through over-autotuned melodies, and synth lines that knock you sideways. It also has a brief ambient section, which is fun. It’s all fun. Fun and a little confusing. I wish more music drew that reaction.
