Approved: Pat Dam Smyth
By Andy Malt | Published on Wednesday 12 April 2017
Pat Dam Smyth’s debut album, ‘The Great Divide’, was critically acclaimed upon its release in 2012. As he now prepares to release the follow-up, ‘Kids’, the new record’s first single ‘Juliette’ suggests that he should be expecting at least as much, if not more adulation.
The song has a classic feel, bolder and more band-focussed than those on his debut. The lyrics paint a strong picture of the story being told, while the interplay of instruments cut a furrow for Smyth’s halting vocal melodies to run through. Also: strong saxophone use.
