Approved: PAWS – Bainz
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 13 March 2012
‘Bainz’ by Glasgow-based trio PAWS has been rolling around in my head for a few weeks now. I just can’t seem to shift it. When I first heard it on the Song, By Toad podcast I wasn’t sure about it, the nasal grungy sound initially unappealing, but it won me over quickly with its simplicity and intimate lyrics.
Apparently written in the middle of the night by frontman Phillip Taylor when he couldn’t sleep, it was then latched onto a self-made video shot in the woods around Tain in the Highlands of Scotland, where Taylor is from, and bunged onto YouTube. If this is an indicator of how PAWS’s debut album for FatCat will sound, then that’s going to be something to definitely track down.
As well as that forthcoming album, you’ll be able to hear PAWS on Song, By Toad’s upcoming split twelve-inch, also featuring Waiters, Sex Hands and Dolfinz, and live in London when they play the Shacklewell Arms on 31 Mar.
