Approved: Remi
By Andy Malt | Published on Tuesday 16 July 2019
Rapper Remi returns with his first new release since last year’s ‘Black Hole Sun’ EP, new single ‘5am’. Collaborating once again with production partner Sensible J, the track sees him exorcising relationship and mental health issues, seemingly without filter. Singer Whosane then drops in a chorus to top off the effortless-sounding song.
“I wrote ‘5am’ when I was locked in the house for a couple of days with the flu”, explains Remi. “I guess I was trying to get all the shit out of my body or something, because my mind wandered to a toxic past relationship and I just needed to write about it”.
“I hadn’t dealt with many parts of it, so there was a lot of real-time processing and redrafting before I could properly articulate the whole situation”, he goes on. “Sensible J, with the help of Silent J, had already created the perfect beat-scape for me to vent over”.
Remi will be touring the UK with a handful of dates next month, supporting Black Milk in Manchester, Bristol and Leeds before a headline show at London’s Jazz Café on 15 Aug.
