Approved: Russell Dean Stone
By Andy Malt | Published on Monday 3 December 2012
Having been holed up in various studios over the course of this year, self-styled ‘goth pop prince’ Russell Dean Stone finally let loose a track last week.
Co-written and produced by Dimitri Tikovoi (whose list of previous collaborators includes Nicola Roberts, The Horrors, Charli XCX and more), ‘I Don’t Need You’ opens with simple drum and synth lines, gradually growing into a grand, layered production. Stone’s vocals then ride these growing wave with coolly maintained anger, laying down the law rather than losing his rag, which only adds to the strength of the song.
