Supervisjón

Supervisjón is a project from musician Lasse Jæger in which he explores the intricacies of modern life through experimental electronic music. Drawing inspiration from Kraftwerk and the footwork genre, in his debut single ‘At Telda’ he ponders the relationship between humans and computers via nonsense lyrics provided by fellow Faroese creator, poet Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger.

“Telda in Faroese means computer”, Jæger explains of the track’s title. “But in this (con)text the Faroese noun has been changed into a verb ‘at telda’ – to compute. Only thing is the grammar is off and in Faroese it sounds like a primitive AI trying to talk badly inflected Faroese, the parallel in English would be something like ‘to computer’ – which doesn’t make sense at all”.

“Of course, there is nod to Kraftwerk’s ‘Computer World’, but the relationship between man and computer has completely changed in the last 40 years”, he goes on. “Back then the computer was something strange almost alien. Today computers are all pervasive in our lives, they are extended parts of our bodies, and we stare into them as if they are going to answer us back, and our brains are in love with them”.

And so it is that these ideas are represented in lyrics that translate to things like “I love computer”, “I go to bed with computer” and “I wrap computer in blanket”.

Do you absolutely need to know all of this? No. All you need to know is that it’s a weird banger that delights even when you don’t know what any of the words mean.

“The first time I played this track live, it was at a small music venue in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, the crowd went bananas”, says Jæger. “I see my process as a kind of Dr Frankenstein method; building a body of sound and rhythm to the point that it is too much. It becomes a monster. And from there on it is all about handling it and kind of clearing the way for it to roam freely”.

The track is taken from Supervisjón’s debut album ‘Fast Trakk’, which is set for release in October. Listen to ‘At Telda’ here:
