Approved: The Claque
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 14 March 2019
After Girl Band cancelled all tour dates and went on hiatus in 2017, guitarist Alan Duggan turned to two friends, Kate Brady and Paddy Ormond, to work on something new. Aiming to combine elements of their differing music tastes, they hoped to create something that could be challenging and catchy at the same time.
Duggan’s grinding, abstract guitar style nevertheless drives The Claque’s music but, unlike Girl Band, it is tempered by the vocals. Brady doesn’t allow her voice to be drawn into the guitar squall, and it is to the great benefit of the band’s overall sound.
The Claque’s debut single, ‘Hush’, is out now digitally, with a twelve-inch also set for release next month. The band have also announced that they will play their first live show at an as yet undisclosed location in Dublin on 27 Apr.
