Austin Powers not joining Blur
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 16 October 2015
Mike Myers won’t be performing ‘Parklife’ with Blur at Madison Square Garden, but there’s an energetic new Gorillaz album on the way. Swings and roundabouts.
Discussing Blur’s upcoming New York show on 23 Oct, Albarn told Rolling Stone: “It’s going to be very interesting performing a song like ‘Parklife’ in Madison Square Garden. I’m trying to find an American comic actor to perform it. I think that would be really fun. I asked Mike Myers – he’s a lovely guy. I imagined him as Austin Powers doing ‘Parklife’. It’d be quite a wonderful thing. But unfortunately he couldn’t do it”.
Yes, what a shame. What a damn shame. But what about this Gorillaz album, which Albarn has been working on since last year? He must be making pretty good progress on that by now.
“I’m in the very early days on a new Gorillaz record”, said the big slacker. “So far, it’s really fast, and it’s got quite a lot of energy”.
