Bastille drummer turns football commentator
By Andy Malt | Published on Friday 21 February 2014
Yeah, so winning a BRIT Award is all great and stuff, but fame and fortune don’t last forever. Everyone needs something to fall back on. Luckily for Bastille drummer Chris Wood, he’s just scored a new job as a football commentator on BBC Radio Devon. Unfortunately, he’s only been booked to appear once, so I guess he’ll have to return to touring the world as a musician and just hope that works out after all.
Wood will appear on the station to commentate on his team of choice Plymouth Argyle’s match against Dagenham & Redbridge this Saturday, alongside regular football talker Gordon Sparks.
Sparks said of his upcoming shouting engagement with a popstar: “I have been fortunate enough to have managers and players (including internationals) alongside me, but it will be a first to have someone from the world of entertainment – especially given the popularity of Bastille. Him being an Argyle fan is a bonus. I’m sure Woody will fit in well”.
Wood meanwhile commented: “Having grown up going to Argyle with my family since I was a young boy, I jumped at the chance to get involved with the team and the broadcasting legend that is Sir Gordon Sparks. This will be a dream come true”.
So, if football and talking are things that interest you (I can take or leave both, to be honest), tune in to BBC Radio Devon for kick-off at 3pm this Saturday.
