BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards presented
By Chris Cooke | Published on Friday 21 February 2014
So, while you were all watching the BRITs on Wednesday night (or perhaps you weren’t, given that the average audience of the TV broadcast was two million down on last year), real music aficionados were tuning into their radio sets for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014. There were performances galore during the show, which was hosted this year by Mark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis, including a finale from Peggy Seeger, who led a tribute to her late half-brother Pete, who died last month.
Commenting on the bash, Radio 2 boss Bob Shennan told CMU: “Congratulations to everyone who won an award. It was a wonderful celebration and a reflection of just how vibrant the UK folk music scene is. As a genre, folk continues to be an important part of Radio 2’s schedule and we remain committed to broadcasting distinctive and specialist music content”.
