Someone at Apple Corps has seemingly found a load of old Beatles recordings in a box and next week they’re going to shove them up on iTunes and see what happens. A new 59 track compilation, called ‘You Idiots Will Buy Anything’, will feature studio outtakes, demos and 44 live performances captured by the BBC. Oh, it’s actually called ‘The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963’, I misread it the first time.

The Beatles are currently three years into an exclusivity deal with iTunes, of course, an alliance which, this new release suggests, still has some mileage left in it. Insiders reckon that the current deal between the two Apple companies is due to end next year, though it’s thought the arrangement has been extended once before and could be again. If the money’s right – and it’s certainly been lucrative for all involved so far – then a further extension may well be on the cards.
