BMG has acquired a 50% stake in the song catalogues and, on the recordings side, a stake in the so called neighbouring rights income of Bobby Gillespie, Andrew Innes and the estate of Robert Young for their work with Primal Scream. The deal covers all eleven of the band’s albums.

“Primal Scream are one of the most influential bands of the past 30 years with a cultural resonance which continues today”, says Alistair Norbury, BMG President Repertoire & Marketing UK. “We are delighted to become custodians of their work”.

Formed in the early 1980s by school friends Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie – while they were still at school – Primal Scream subsequently signed to Creation Records, set up by yet another school friend, Alan McGee. Innes joined in 1987, for many years playing guitars alongside Young, who then departed the band in 2006. Young later died, aged 49, in 2014.

The band released their most recent album, ‘Chaosmosis’, in 2016. They are set to perform at the Wide Awake festival in London’s Brockwell Park on 28 May, where they will play their 1991 album ‘Screamadelica’ in full.
